When the war broke out in the former Yugoslavia, the Tobins mounted a humanitarian effort that resulted in the building of a free clinic and refugee housing facilities. More than $29 million dollars worth of food, medicine medical equipment and other life-sustaining necessities were hand deliveredy by the Tobins and the people who traveled with them – a mission that continues to this day.
Many children were brought to the United States for life saving medical treatment while others are now being treated in their own countries with the help of Pilgrims’ Peace Center.
There is still an urgent need to bring particular children to the United States for surgery and medical treatment that they cannot receive in their own country. These are life saving operations. The children will die without them. This is the most pressing, urgent need of Pilgrims’ Peace Center.
PROJECT H.A.L.O.was inspired by Mother Teresa who said, “Help at least one, then go one, by one, by one.” This project provides life-saving care and other relief, primarily for children, who come from the area that we serve. Just one example of a child who will die without our help is Salija, a boy who cannot live without kidney medications with cost $600 a month. His mother takes care of him and his father is a street cleaner who earns $200 a month. There is no insurance. Many other children are also on our list for help.
HOUSE OF LOVE is a triplex in Medjugorje that was completed ten years ago by Pilgrims’ Peace Center. Three formerly homeless, special needs families have made it their home. Now it in immediate need of a permanent tile roof before the mold and mildew caused by the irreparable shingle roof completely destroys the building! The cost for a new roof is $20,000.
CASTLES IN THE DUMP – “A man’s home is his castle” the saying goes. And the same is true for a woman. But when you’re homeless and live in the city dump, a steel container with a door and a window feels like a castle. For $2500, we can give a family a home, safe from the rats and wolves that also uses the dump as a source of food.
Partners in Joyful Hope
PPC partners are benefactors who are keeping this ministry alive! They make a minimum contribution of $1200 per year, either annually, quarterly or monthly.
Project H.A.L.O.
This project was inspired by Mother Teresa who said, “Help At Least One, then go one by one by one…” Help is given directly from our hands to the hands of persons in desperate need, most often, to children in need of life-saving medical attention not available to them from other sources.
Guardian Angels
Our Guardian Angels help to support specific child or family in the area of Medjugorje that receives help from no other source. Each situation is unique and desperate.
Apostles of Love
The Apostles of Love are special people who send in a monthly $50 donation to Pilgrims’ Peace Center and allow us to apply the funds where the need is greatest. Without them, Pilgrims’ Peace Center would have ceased to exist a long time ago.
Meals On Wings
The area we serve is a bit too far for “Meals on Wheels” so we have a program called “Meals On Wings”. Donations made to this project are used to purchase food which we then hand-deliver to persons in the greatest need in and around the area of Medjugorje.
NOA’s Ark (No Ordinary Animals)
Cows, pigs, goats and chickens are purchased and supplied to needy families. These families raise them for food that sustains them through the hard winter months. Some families also raises animals for other needy families that do not have space or the ability to raise an animal.
Sponsorship Opportunities:
We are pleased to offer you these wonderful opportunities to take a more active role in our ministries. Every tax deductible, sponsorship dollar that is provided represents a reduction in our annual conference expenses. The more expenses that are covered by our sponsors and participants, the greater is our ability to actually realize a profit on this – our only fund raising event of the year.
